History of the Mill

Only known history is that a windmill was once located on a small parcel of land owned by Samuel McKay who, in 1851, sold it to Chicago as an addition to the City Cemetery.  The cemetery and its graves were later relocated to Graceland Cemetery further north, and the land became what is now Lincoln Park.  The windmill would have stood on what was then the shoreline of Lake Michigan, about where the baseball fields in the park are now.
